Last year marked the succesful inauguration of the Mannes Summer Institute of Art Song in Spanish. Through its collaboration with ProjectCanción Española,Mannes College offers the second edition of this course, the first of its kind at a major conservatory to promote the art song in Spanish as a standard element of the art song genre.
This year's course will be a ten day experience at one of New York’s most prestigious and academically rigorous conservatories and will include master classes and coachings with masters of the repertoire, along with basic courses in Flamenco rhythm and movement. Daily classes with Jorge Robaina and Nan Maro Babakhanian are combined with special masterclasses and presentations by art song specialist Paul Sperry, - Latin repertoire specialist Pablo Zinger, - Mannes voice faculty Beth Roberts, and various composers and archivists from Spain. Once again, the flamenco faculty, Juan Miguel Jimenez and Antonio Vallejo - direct from the historical Albaicin of Granada - will share their art with young musicians and dancers in New York from June 13 –22, 2008.
